Gesäuse (2 summits + 2 huts)

A three day trip to the Gesäuse gets you right into one of the most spectacular mountain sceneries of the Austrian Alps. While the Gesäuse is famous for its rock climbing routes, some of the peaks accessable for the more ambitious hiker.

Due to its outstanding and breathtakingly beautiful landscape, the Gesäuse has been declared a National Park; over millions of years the waters of the Enns have deeply eroded this mountain range. In the process it created a gorge with steep walls soaring up to 1,800 metres into the air. The Gesäuse is home to the last unregulated sections of this great Alpine river, starting at the entrance to the Gesäuse, where the gentle Enns turns into white water. It drops more than 150 metres over the 16 km gorge.

A three day trip in the Gesäuse will bring us right in the heart of the National Park; we will start hiking in Johnsbach (900 m) over beautiful alpine pastures before we reach the Hess-Hut (1691 m), right under the Hochtor, the highest peak in the Gesäuse. We will climb Hochzinödl (2197 m) in (590 m), where we start the morning and return to Johnsbach. We will drive back to the north side of the Enns to Gstatterboden were we start our long ascent to the Ennstaler-Hut (1544 m), where we will – weather permitting – watch the sunset on the terrace over dinner.

We set off for Tamischbachturm (2035 m) in the morning, which will reward with magnificant views on Hochtor, Hochinödl, Reichenstein, etc.etc…..

From there it´s 1500 m down to the River Enns and our starting point, which we will reach in the afternoon, before we head home to Vienna after this rewarding trip.
