What you want to know before the trip

What equipment do I need for snowshoeing?

Gear List for snowshoeing day trip

  • Good mountain or hiking boots (should be waterproof; Goretex or Leather)
  • Gaiters
  • Wicking base layer (wool or synthetic)
  • Insulating mid layer: fleece jacket or vest
  • Waterproof/breathable jacket (or soft shell)
  • Insulating jacket (down or poly-fill; worn at stops)
  • Waterproof/breathable pants or bibs (or soft shell)
  • Alternative: Ski trousers and ski jacket
  • Insulating hat, cap, balaclava
  • Socks (synthetic or wool) plus spares
  • Gloves, Mittens and/or Overmittens
  • Sun-shielding cap or hat (for sunny days)

In the backpack (medium size – 40 l. max.)

  • Sunglasses
  • Thermos
  • Sunblock and lip balm
  • Money (in case we make a break in a hut)
  • Lunch packet, emergency rations (chocolate, candy bars, etc.), personal snack food
  • Personal medications
  • Toilet paper
  • Plastic bags to store gear inside your backpack and for the waste
  • ID or passport, alpine club membership card,
  • mobile phone
  • camera
  • Blister treatment.

In case you have forgotten parts of your equipment at home, please be so kind as to let me know before starting the tour

I bring along a first aid kit on each trip

Pack light and don’t take too much (max 8 kg)!

What equipment do I need for hiking/trekking?

Equipment for a day hike

Clothing:

  • Mountain boots  covering your ankles (Your boots must be well broken in before the trip)
  • Mountain trousers
  • Wool or synthetic T-shirt
  • Sweater/jacket, wool or fleece
  • Warm Hat and Sun hat
  • Rain jacket

In the backpack (medium size – 40 l. max.):

  • Spare T-shirt
  • Gloves
  • Sunglasses
  • Thermos or water bottle
  • Sunblock and lip balm
  • Money (in case we make a break in a hut
  • Lunch packet, emergency rations (chocolate, candy bars, etc.), personal snacks
  • Plastic bags to store gear inside your backpack and for waste
  • ID or passport, alpine club membership card (in case you have one)
  • Mobile phone
  • Camera
  • Personal medications and blister treatment
  • Toilet paper

Where do we meet (pick-up) and where is the drop-off point?

Meeting Point: In front of U3 Station Erdberg / Erdbergstrasse 202

Meeting time: See the indicated departure time for scheduled trips (on private trips as indicated per my e-mail).
